Military Science

The Army JROTC at Desert Oasis High School offers a premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) Military Science program designed to build strong leaders, foster citizenship, and prepare students for life after high school.

Through this rigorous four-year pathway, cadets gain hands-on training in leadership theory, communication, financial literacy, and physical wellness. Completing the program unlocks valuable CTE benefits, including physical education and health waivers, honors weight credits, and the opportunity to earn a CTE Industry Diploma Stamp upon passing the state standardized exam—proving they are fully college- and career-ready.

Military Science I - JROTC United States Army

This one-year course familiarizes students in the fundamentals of Military Science. Areas of emphasis include curriculum from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). JROTC curriculum emphasizes leadership, citizenship, wellness, physical fitness, character development and community service. This program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation, by instructors who are retired United States Army officers and enlisted personal, utilizing AdvancedED Accredited curriculum provided by the Army. This course fulfills either one of the two physical education credits or one of the elective credits required for high school graduation.

Prerequisite: None
Course Fee: $40 plus Uniform Rental

Military Science II - JROTC United States Army

This one-year course advances students who have successfully completed the fundamentals of Military Science I - Army. Areas of emphasis include curriculum from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). JROTC curriculum emphasizes: leadership, citizenship, wellness, physical fitness, character development and community service. This course fulfills either one of the two physical education credits or one of the elective credits required for high school graduation.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Military Science I with a “B” or better in both semesters

Military Science III - JROTC United States Army

This one-year course advances students who have successfully completed the essentials of Military Science II. Areas of emphasis include curriculum from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). JROTC curriculum emphasizes: leadership, citizenship, military careers, branch core values and community service. This course fulfills one of the Arts/Humanities/CTE credits required for high school graduation.

Prerequisite: Military Science II

Military Science III Honors - JROTC United States Army

This one-year course advances students who have successfully completed the essentials of Military Science II. This course is designated as honors level by the accelerated instructional pacing and depth of content. Students in this course are assigned areas of responsibility and are expected to perform their duties in addition to mentoring and leading other Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Army cadets. Areas of emphasis include curriculum from the Army JROTC. This course fulfills one of the Arts/Humanities/CTE credits required for high school graduation.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Military Science II with a “B” or better in both semesters

JROTC Drill/Leadership

This one-year course is designed to provide the ROTC student with a specialized area of military precision drill involving above-normal physical activity that will have carry-over value into future military careers. This course is not a substitute for the basic ROTC courses. Students will expend additional time and energy on military drill in preparation for participation on a performing team, i.e., Marching Drill Team, Rifle Drill Team, or Color Guard. Performances may be in competitive contests. The prerequisite for this course is enrollment in an ROTC class. This course may be repeated. This course will fulfill one of the elective credits required for graduation.

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in Military Science and teacher recommendation
