WHAT IS THE ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION AND HOW IS DESERT OASIS HIGH SCHOOL INVOLVED?
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the St. Baldrick's Foundation:
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants. Volunteers shave their heads in solidarity with kids being treated for cancer, but the real point is to raise money for lifesaving research.
St. Baldrick’s volunteers have made a powerful impact in the fight against childhood cancer:
- Granting over $352 million USD in childhood cancer research since 2005
- Contributing to hundreds of childhood cancer research projects
- Training the next generation of researchers
- Helping institutions treat more children on clinical trials
In 2012, Mr. Whitefoot was the 1st teacher from Desert Oasis to Brave the Shave and raise money for childhood cancer research. On March 17, 2017, several other DOHS teachers joined the cause and we shaved our heads at a school assembly in the gym. The first student joined the DO St. Baldrick's Team in 2019.
