Attendance Office

• Students are expected to be on time for every class.
• Students must be physically inside their assigned classroom when the final bell for each period rings.
• Students who are tardy must report to the classroom, and the teacher will mark them tardy.
• Students who are more than thirty (30) minutes late to any class will be counted as absent.
• Students who are not in their assigned classroom will be marked absent.
• Desert Oasis High School adheres to all CCSD guidelines and policies for attendance. 

DOHS Attendance Policy

• Attendance notes must be submitted within 3 days of a student's return to school following an absence.
• A pre-arranged absence note must be submitted before the absence(s). 
• Arranged absences in excess of ten (10) days during a semester will be considered unexcused unless accompanied by a medical note.
• Notes must be written by the parent/guardian listed in Infinite Campus
• Notes must include the following information: student name, student ID #, parent name, parent phone number, and date(s) of the student’s absence(s).

Attendance notes may be submitted using one of the following two methods: 

• Complete an Absent Attendance Excuse Form
• Provide a written note to the Attendance Secretary, located in the front office

Nevada law and CCSD policy state that absence excuses received after 3 days will be marked as NCU, which is an unexcused absence. 

• We cannot excuse individual class-period absences in the middle or at the end of the instructional day without following checkout procedures.
• Students who leave class early but who are not checked out using the early checkout procedures will be considered truant.

Denial of Credit Policy

DMV Certification of Attendance Form 

General Nevada State Requirement for DMV Certification of Attendance:

• Anyone under the age of 18 who applies for an instruction permit, driver's license, or driver authorization card must provide the DMV with proof that he or she meets Nevada's minimum school attendance requirements. Students must submit a DMV Certification of Attendance Form when applying for an instruction permit. If a student’s permit or license is suspended due to truancy, a new Certification of Attendance must be submitted with the application to reinstate the permit or license.

Attendance Requirements for Driver's Licenses or Permits

• The Nevada Department of Education's minimum attendance requirement is 90%.
• At Desert Oasis High School, students who have more than 7 full-day, unexcused absences or 7 unexcused absences in one class during a semester or during the two most recently completed quarters are not eligible to receive a DMV-301.
• Please note that missing 50% of classes is considered a full-day absence per DMV.
• The Certification of Attendance form is also used to suspend or deny the driving privileges of a student who has been declared a habitual truant under NRS Chapter 392.  

Driver's Education Courses

Nearly all Nevada beginning drivers under 18 must complete a driver education course. You can enroll at age 15. Exceptions are not made for home-schooled students. DOHS does NOT offer Driver Education courses. Students must enroll in a course through a private company. 

Three Options:

1. Attend a classroom course and complete 50 hours of behind-the-wheel experience; or
2. Complete an online course and 50 hours of behind-the-wheel experience; or
3. Complete 100 hours of driving experience. This option applies only if a classroom course is not offered within a 30-mile radius of your residence and you do not have access to the internet

Requirements:

• Parents/Guardians can complete the early checkout process in two different ways. One being the traditional way, and the second by submitting a DOHS Early Checkout Form 24 Hours in Advance. Please see below for additional requirements for each way of the early checkout procedures. 

Traditional - Pickup in-person:

• Complete the checkout form in the main office.
• Be listed as a parent/guardian in Infinite Campus.
• Provide a government-issued ID.

Early Checkout Form w/ Advanced Notice:

• Submit a DOHS Early Checkout Form 24 hours in advance. 
• The form must include the following: student name, student ID #, parent name, parent phone number, date and time the student is to be released from campus, and a copy of the parent/guardian’s driver’s license.

Students Who Drive Themselves to School:

• Parents/Guardians of students who drive themselves to school may check the student out virtually by sending a form prior to checkout to: DOHS Early Checkout Form
• The form must include the following information: student name, student ID #, name of parent/guardian requesting the student release, date and time that student will be released, reason for release of student, copy of parent/guardian government-issued ID

Habitual truancies are unapproved absences (skipping class, leaving campus without permission, attending a class other than the student’s assigned class, abuse of hall pass privileges, no attendance note provided by parent/guardian within 3 days):

• A student is considered truant after one (1) unapproved absence in any class period.
• A student who has three (3) consecutive or non-consecutive unapproved absences in any class
• Period is considered habitually truant.
• For students who reach three (3), six (6), and nine (9) unexcused absences, the Attendance
• Office will mail truancy letters to the parent/guardian listed in Infinite Campus.
• Habitual truancy may result in denial of credit.
• Habitual truancy may result in the revocation of a student’s driving privileges.
